MONROE, La. – The ULM
women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four-straight Saturday evening
when it defeated Troy 65-48 in Fant-Ewing Coliseum. It is the first time ULM has
won four-straight Sun Belt Conference games since joining the SBC in 2006-07.
ULM (12-10, 6-3 SBC) owned
the lead for the entire contest and held Troy scoreless over the first six
minutes of the second half to go on a 12-0 run for its biggest lead of the game
44-25 with 14:10 left to play. The Trojans were unable to recover from the
deficit after trading baskets with the Warhawks for almost the entire remainder
of the game.
The Trojans brought the
score to within 11 points (58-47) late in the second half on a 9-2 run before
ULM used a final 7-2 spree to end the game with a 65-48 win.
Larrie Williams led the
Warhawks in scoring for the second-straight contest with a team-high 16 points after
going 7-of-10 from the field. Jordan Rawson was the only other ULM player to
score double-digits with a career-high 11 points while having a career-high
three steals. Sannisha Williams grabbed a team-high eight boards and Elizabeth
Torres handed out seven assists.
ULM shot 45.3 percent for
the evening compared to 32.7 percent by Troy (5-17, 2-7 SBC), making it
four-straight games the Warhawks have shot 45.0 percent or above from the
field. The Warhawks went deep into their line-up in scoring with 26 points off
the bench compared to just seven by Troy and used a 15-8 advantage in scoring
off turnovers.
The Warhawks grabbed a 6-4
start to the first half until three-straight layups by Larrie Williams over less
than a minute quickly multiplied their lead 12-4 with 16:04 left before the
half. The Trojans responded immediately with an 8-0 run over three and a half
minutes to force the second tie of the game 12-12 at the 11:58 mark.
One more tie ensued until
an Elexar Tugler jumper sparked a 7-0 spree that gave ULM a 21-14 lead at the
9:08 mark. A 7-2 run by the Trojans inched them to within two 23-21 before the
Warhawks took a 10-4 streak into the break and allowed just two baskets by Troy
over six and a half minutes for a 33-25 halftime lead.
Sophie Kleeman scored a
team-high 17 points to lead the Trojans while Donette McNair contributed 16
points. Tenia Manuel pulled down 10 rebounds for the contest and Kleeman had a
team-high three assists.
After hosting Troy the
Warhawks will embark on a two-game road trip to face Sun Belt East Division foe
Middle Tennessee Wednesday at 7 p.m. before taking on Western Kentucky on
Saturday at 1 p.m.
