STARKVILLE, Miss. - The ULM softball team continues to prove
excellence on and off the field as eight Warhawks were honored with the
National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athlete Award for
the 2010-11 season last week. ULM also ranks in the top-50 of all programs for
the best cumulative team GPA in NCAA Division I.
A program-record eight student-athletes were recognized by
the NFCA for the accolade which is awarded to any player with a 3.50 GPA or
higher during the 2010-11 academic year. Warhawks that received the award
include Roxy Cassel, Jessica Chastka, Elena DiMattia, Jessica Olguin, Charlotte
Pastor, Melissa Rivera, Elise West and Lacey Willis.
ULM also had a cumulative team GPA of 3.279 last year to rank
47th in the nation for NCAA Division I programs. Troy is the only
other Sun Belt Conference school to rank in the top-50 with a seventh place
finish overall. The Warhawks' eight honorees were second only to Troy which landed
nine overall, and tied with Western Kentucky which also had eight.
ULM concludes its fall slate next weekend with an exhibition
game against LSU on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Baton Rouge, La. The Warhawks host
their annual alumni game the following weekend on Oct. 29th during
ULM's homecoming, which will be held at the ULM Softball Complex at 11 a.m.
