MONROE, La. - Western Kentucky withstood a late charge from ULM for a 1-0 victory in Sun Belt soccer action Friday at the ULM Soccer Complex.

The Warhawks (5-10-1, 0-7-0 SBC) put forth a tremendous effort defensively, spearheaded by junior goalkeeper Alex Holland, who recorded two saves in the match. ULM had a pair scoring opportunities in the final minutes, but was unable to find the back of the net.

ULM finished with five shots in the match, with its best scoring opportunity coming in the 64th minute on a shot from freshman Lexi Wilkerson. Wilkerson's shot from 25 yards out deflected off the goalkeeper and bounced off the post.

Western Kentucky (9-5-1, 4-2-1 SBC) scored the only goal of the match in the eighth minute on a goal from Amanda Buechel, her first of the season.

Neither team scored the rest of the way as both defenses locked in. The Warhawks held the Sun Belt's leading goal scorer Mallory Outerbridge to just one shot attempt in the match.

ULM returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. against defending Sun Belt Tournament champion Middle Tennessee at the ULM Soccer Complex.
