MONROE, La. - Northwestern State shot 46 percent from the field and knocked in a season-high 13 3-pointers en route to a 76-63 victory over ULM Thursday evening inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The Demons (5-5) finished 13-of-28 from beyond the arc, including six 3s from Louis Ellis. Ellis led Northwestern State with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Gary Stewart added 12 points while Shamir Davis contributed 11 points for the Demons. Northwestern State has converted a total of 15 3-pointers in its last two games.

ULM (1-10) shot 42.6 percent from the field and outscored Northwestern State 30-18 in the paint. Senior guard Fred Brown scored 14 points and dished out four assists to lead the way for the Warhawks.

Sophomore Steven McClellan finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Charles Winborne scored in double figures for the second straight game with 13 points.

Ellis hit a trio of 3-pointers in the second half to help the Demons build its 10-point halftime advantage to as many as 21 with 5:31 remaining in the game. Northwestern State embarked on an 18-8 run midway through the second half to lead 71-51 with 6:01 to play.

The Demons hit eight 3-pointers and shot a blistering 50 percent in the first half to take a 45-35 advantage at halftime. Northwestern State converted its first three 3-pointers of the half and led 11-2 with 17:08 remaining before the break. Stewart scored six straight points, including a 3-pointer, to give Northwestern State a 19-6 lead at the 13:21.

ULM battled back with a 7-0 spurt to get as close as five at 25-20 on a layup from Brown with 10:10 remaining before the half. Five points is as close as the Warhawks would get though as Northwestern State answered with seven straight points to build its lead back up to 12.

The Warhawks face a tough road test Monday as they travel to the Pacific time zone to face UNLV at 9 p.m. CT.
