MONROE, La. - With the first
month of the college baseball season in the books, several ULM players rank at
or near the top in a number of national statistical categories. The Warhawks
open Sun Belt Conference play this weekend at in-state foe La.-Lafayette.
One of the most dominate arms
out of the bullpen in the Sun Belt Conference, James Jones is tied for the NCAA
lead with four wins on the season. He is also tied with teammate Drew Granier
and others for the national lead with no home runs allowed. Jones leads the Sun
Belt in strikeouts (26) while Granier is second in ERA (1.64).
ULM's Saturday starter on the
mound Randy Zeigler is tied for the national lead in fewest hit batters with
zero on the season. Luke Briley, who has not issued a walk this season, is tied
for first nationally in fewest walks allowed and is tied for second with one shutout.
The Warhawks offensive star
this season Corben Green is fourth nationally with his .491 batting average
over ULM's first 15 games of the season. He leads the Sun Belt in batting
average, slugging percentage (.719), hits (28) and doubles (8). Left fielder
Les Aulds enters this week's action tied for ninth nationally with three
sacrifice flies.
ULM enters league play winners
of eight of its last nine games. During that run of victories, the Warhawks are
batting .320 as a team with a .467 slugging percentage and 15 stolen bases in
17 attempts, while the pitching staff has posted a 2.85 ERA with 69 strikeouts
and just 28 walks over 79 innings of work and has held opposing batters to a
.259 batting average.
