TROY, Ala. – The ULM softball team fell in a 3-0 decision to Sun Belt Conference rival Troy Saturday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex as the Trojans' Ashlyn Williams allowed just three hits in the shutout.
Elise West led ULM (12-13, 1-3 SBC) with a 2-for-3 performance at plate and Melissa Rivera had one hit and one walk while two other Warhawks added a walk. Lacey Willis also had one stolen base. Tiffany Mills (6-8) suffered the loss in the circle after collecting two strikeouts and allowing seven hits with two earned runs.
The Trojans (18-9, 1-0 SBC) strung together a walk and a single in the bottom of the fourth inning before a fielding error pushed the first run across home plate. Sarah Shields followed with a two RBI single to second base to plate two more runners and give Troy a 3-0 lead. The Trojans held ULM to just two hits from that point to claim the 3-0 win.
Williams threw her seventh double-digit strikeout game of the season as she put away 11 batters and allowed just three walks. At the plate, Michelle Hewett went 2-for-3 with one run to lead Troy while Callie Rawlinson and Hayden Gann also tacked on a run.
The Warhawks continue action this afternoon in the second game of the doubleheader with the Trojans with first pitch scheduled for 3:20 p.m.
