ULM's Fred Brown Headlines Two Men's Basketball Players on All-Louisiana Team

MONROE, La. - A pair of ULM men's basketball players earned All-Louisiana honors as junior guard Fred Brown was named a third-team selection, while senior forward Tommie Sykes earned honorable mention, released Saturday evening by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA).

Brown averaged a team-high 13.8 points per game in his first season with the Warhawks after transferring from Kansas State. He finished the season ranked fifth in the Sun Belt Conference in 3-point makes per game (2.1) and 10th in the conference in scoring.

Brown finished also just outside the top 10 in school history with 60 3-point makes. He had five games in which he scored over 20 points, including a pair of 25-point outings. Brown knocked in four or more 3-pointers in seven different games - his season high was seven 3-pointers at Texas Tech in the season opener.

Sykes was one of the most consistent players for ULM this season, averaging 11.5 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game. He ranked second in the Sun Belt with 92 offensive rebounds and 10th in overall rebounding. Sykes also led the team in field-goal percentage (.489), steals (44), free throws made (118) and free throws attempted (212). In conference play, Sykes upped his scoring average to 12.5 points per game.

This is second year in a row that Sykes has been named an honorable mention selection on the All-Louisiana team.

Anatoly Bose of Nicholls State was named Louisiana Player of the Year and a first team selection, while Kendall Timmons of Tulane, Pat Richard of McNeese State, Olu Ashaolu of Louisiana Tech and Ryan Brock of Loyola rounded out the first team.

Eric Young of LSU-Shreveport picked up Newcomer of the Year honors, J.J. Thomas of UL-Lafayette was named Freshman of the Year and Dave Simmons of McNeese State earned Coach of the Year.
