ULM Softball Inks Alexis Cacioppo to National Letter of Intent

Softball

MONROE, La. - ULM softball head coach Rosemary Holloway-Hill announced Friday afternoon the signing of Alexis Cacioppo to a National Letter of Intent to begin play with the Warhawks for the 2012 season.

"We are expecting Alexis to come in and fill one of our vacated spots in the outfield for one of our three departing seniors next season," said Holloway-Hill. "They're big shoes to fill, but she's quick and has a good mind for the game. She's also been a shortstop in the past, so she is definitely athletic enough to step in and become an impact player immediately."

Cacioppo, a native of La Habra, Calif., is currently playing her fourth season at Sonora High School under head coach Michelle Rodriguez. She also played with the Lakewood Firecrackers club team under head coach Jorge Araujo.

A multi-faceted player who will bring in experience at second base, shortstop and outfielder, Cacioppo has earned many accolades over the past three seasons including first-team All-League for three years straight.  The senior also earned Rookie of the Year honors in her first season at Sonora HS and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Diamond Barr HS softball tournament this past season.

A speedster on the field, Cacioppo currently leads Sonora in runs scored, doubles and stolen bases this season. Cacioppo is also batting .330 on the season and was moved to the top of the lineup to capitalize on her speed rounding the bases.

Cacioppo is the third player to sign with head coach Holloway-Hill this season and joins early signees Kayla Boening of San Antonio, Texas, and Mackenzie Miller of Evergreen , Colo., as members of the class of 2012.
