FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The ULM softball team dropped game one
of the doubleheader 1-0 to Southeastern Conference member Arkansas Tuesday
afternoon at Bogle Park after a closely contested pitcher's duel that went
eight innings. ULM falls to 25-23 on the season and remains at 10-11 in Sun
Belt play and Arkansas improves to 13-35 overall.
Tiffany Mills pitched all 7.2 innings for her seventh
complete game of the season and allowed just one run on eight hits while
fanning four batters and walking another four. Only four Warhawks managed a hit
in the contest as Samantha Riojas and Elise West each went a team-best 1-for-3
while Riojas and Janel Salanoa had one double.
The game's only run came in walk-off fashion when Jayme Gee
singled to reach and advanced to second on a fielding error before Chloe
Oprzedek hit a single to left field to plate the winning run and end the game
with Arkansas winning 1-0.
Only Four Razorbacks managed a hit with each going an identical
2-for-4 as Gee scored the only run of the game and Oprzedek had one RBI. Kim
Jones also threw a complete game and allowed just four hits in eight innings
with two walks and six strikeouts.
First pitch for game two of the doubleheader is scheduled
for 4:30 p.m.
