MONROE, La. -- Central
Arkansas used a five-run fifth inning en route to a 11-3 victory over ULM
Tuesday night at Warhawk Field.
The Bears opened the fifth
with six straight hits, including an RBI double by Blake Roberts and RBI
singles by Michael Pair and Kyle Prevett. Three of the first five hits in the
inning didn't leave the infield. Following a double play with the bases loaded that
cut off the lead runner, Logan Moon lined a single to right to plate two more
runs.
After UCA (21-26) pushed
across two in the top of the first on a double by Roberts, ULM chipped away
with single runs in the first and third to tie the game. Les Aulds scored both
of the runs for the Warhawks -- on a sac fly by Caleb Clowers in the first and
a ground out by Joey Rapp in the third. Aulds was the lone Warhawk with
multiple hits as he finished 2-for-4.
The Bears sent nine batters to
the plate in the ninth and scored four runs on four hits. Prevett led the
17-hit attack by UCA going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored,
while six others finished with two hits.
ULM (22-25) pushed across its
final of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning on a fielding error by
Central Arkansas.
Jackson Lowery (1-1) picked up
the win for UCA with three innings of scoreless work out of the bullpen. He
walked one and allowed just one hit.
Brent Gay (2-2) took the loss
for the Warhawks as he allowed five runs on eight hits over four innings of
work. Making his first appearance since April 13, Gay struck out a season-high
six and walked three.
The Warhawks host the Sun Belt's
top team in Troy this weekend in a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled
for 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
