NATICHOTCHES, La. --
Northwestern State scored in five straight innings to rally from a three-run
deficit and defeat ULM 7-5 Tuesday night in non-conference action at
Brown-Stroud Field.
The Demons (21-31) scratched a
run across in the bottom of the second inning to take an early lead. Will
Watson led off the inning with a triple and came home to score on a ground out
by Matt Farmer.
ULM (23-28) opened the third
inning with four straight hits en route to a four-run inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Jarrett Hammond, Joey Rapp and Judd Edwards all plated a run with singles,
while Joey Cesario brought home a run with a grounder to short. Edwards
finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
A run in the third and two in
the fourth by Northwestern State tied the game. Nick Hinojos delivered a
two-out single following a pair of walks in the third, while Jordan Buckley had
an RBI single in the fourth and Ray Frias followed with a sac fly to tie the
game.
The Demons pushed runs across
in the fifth and sixth innings to build a 6-4 lead. Watson doubled home Colin Bear
in the fifth and Drew Helenihi had an RBI single in the sixth.
Clowers lined a one-out single
to center field in the eighth and moved to third on a two-base error by the
Demons. He would come home to score on a sac fly by Edwards. However, the
Demons got the run back in their half of the frame on an RBI single by Hinojos.
Miles Mulkey (1-2) picked up
the win for the Demons after holding the Warhawks to one unearned run on two
hits over 4.1 innings out of the bullpen. Joe Scanio struck out two in the
ninth for his first save of the season.
Brent Gay (2-3) was charged
with the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.
The Warhawks wrap up the
regular season with a three-game set against Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday,
Friday and Saturday. First pitch for all three contests is scheduled for 6 p.m.
