CONWAY, Ark. - The ULM soccer team used a strong defensive performance
and some timely goals to defeat Central Arkansas 2-1 in its season opener Friday
afternoon at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex.
Sophomore Alyssa Lopez and freshman Alyssa Wooden each had goals for
the Warhawks, who defeated Central Arkansas in their season opener for the
second straight season.
Lopez recorded the first goal of the season for ULM off her own putback
in the 13th minute for a 1-0 lead. Wooden extended the Warhawks'
lead in the 62nd minute when she dribbled past the Central Arkansas
goalkeeper and scored from five yards out.
Brooke Ballard of Central Arkansas scored with 1:30 to play make the
score 2-1.
ULM and Central Arkansas each had eight shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah
Linzay recorded five saves in her debut for the Warhawks.
The Warhawks travel to Nicholls State Sunday at 1 p.m.
