THIBODAUX, La. - The ULM soccer team overcame an early deficit and
played to a 1-1 tie at Nicholls State Sunday afternoon at the Nicholls Soccer
Complex. The draw moved the Warhawks to 1-0-1 on the season, while Nicholls
State also went to 1-0-1.
Freshman Alyssa Wooden struck for ULM's only goal, her second of the
season, in the 29th minute to tie the score at 1-1. Wooden received
a nice pass from sophomore Taylor Epperson and dribbled by the Nicholls State goalkeeper
for the goal.
Nicholls State scored first on a goal from Alexandra Marino in the
ninth minute. Marino fired her shot from 10 yards out into the upper right side
of the goal to give the Colonels the advantage.
Neither team was able to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the
second half or in the two overtime sessions. The Warhawks managed eight shots
in the match, four of which were on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Linzay was sharp for the second straight
match with nine saves Sunday.
The Warhawks finish off a string of three matches in five days at home
against Northwestern State Tuesday 4:30 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex.
