MONROE,
La. - The ULM soccer team put on a dominating performance in the second half to
surge by Southern University, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the ULM Soccer Complex.
The
Warhawks (2-1-1) controlled possession most of the match and outshot the Lady
Jags 17-0 in the second half, including an 8-0 advantage in shots on goal. ULM
held a 22-2 shots advantage in the match and the defense kept Southern (0-2-0) without
a shot on goal the entire match.
After
several good looks at the goal early in the second half, junior Kylie McIntyre
scored off a corner kick in the 83rd minute to give the Warhawks a comfortable
2-0 advantage. Freshman forward Alyssa Wooden added her team-leading third goal
of the season in the 88th minute to put the match away with a 3-0 margin.
Freshman
forward Taylor Bonetti recorded assists on both of the second half goals to
earn her third and fourth points of the season.
ULM
struck for a 1-0 lead on a goal from sophomore forward Megan Lindholm in the 42nd
minute. Lindholm got past the defense on a feed from goalkeeper Hannah Linzay
and knocked in a chip shot over the goalkeeper from 20 yards out.
The
shutout is the first for ULM since blanking Central Arkansas, 1-0, on Aug. 20,
2010.
The
Warhawks finish off a three-match homestand by hosting McNeese State Friday at
4 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex.
