TROY, Ala. - A second-half surge led Troy past ULM 4-0 Friday in the
conference opener for both schools at the Troy Soccer Complex.
The Warhawks (5-4-1, 0-1 SBC) trailed just 1-0 at the half, but Troy
(6-3-1, 1-0 SBC) tallied three goals in an 11-minute span early in the second half
to put the match away. ULM managed nine shots in the match, six of which were
on goal, but was unable to notch a goal for just the second time this season.
Troy took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal from Ruth Sutcliffe in the 28th
minute - the only goal from either team in the first half. Each team finished
the half with four shots.
The Trojans extended the lead early in the second half on a goal from
Chelsey Williams in the 47th minute. Sutcliffe added her second goal of the
match in the 54th minute and Williams finished off the scoring with a goal in
the 58th minute to put the match away.
Sophomore Hannah Linzay returned to keeper and had six saves in the
match.
The Warhawks return to action Sunday at South Alabama at 1 p.m.
