MONROE, La. - The ULM soccer team fell to
McNeese State 3-0 Friday afternoon at the ULM Soccer Complex. The contest concluded a three-game homestand
for the Warhawks.
McNeese State (2-3-0) opened the scoring in
the 11th minute, when Audrey Lalanne finished off a crossing pass
from teammate Hannah Hopson on a 2-on-1 break to beat sophomore goalkeeper
Hannah Linzay for the 1-0 lead. The
Cowgirls struck once more before the end of the half, as Lalanne buried a free
kick from the top of the box for her second goal of the game, and the season,
sending McNeese State to the break with a 2-0 advantage.
ULM (2-2-1) applied pressure early in the
second half, when freshman Cerene Arsenault had a clean shot on goal that was
knocked aside by goalkeeper Cassandra Read in the 47th minute. The spurt was all the Warhawks could muster,
as McNeese State added an insurance goal by Johna Germany in the 64th
minute to cap the scoring.
McNeese State registered a game-high 10 shots
on goal, with only three shots finding the net for ULM. Linzay was solid in net for the Warhawks,
recording seven saves.
Freshman Taylor Bonetti paced the ULM attack
with two shots, including one shot on goal.
The Warhawks will have the next four days off
before traveling to Centenary on Sept. 7 for a 7 p.m. matchup.
