MONROE,
La. - The ULM soccer team put together a strong defensive performance, but fell
1-0 to North Texas in Sun Belt action Friday at the ULM Soccer Complex.
North
Texas (8-3-1, 3-0-0) struck for the only goal of the match in the 51st minute
on Ellen Scarfone's third goal of the season. The Mean Green entered the
weekend ranked No. 13 nationally in scoring, but struggled against an improved
ULM defense.
"This
is without a doubt the best effort we have had this season," ULM head coach
Stacy Lamb said. "It was the best total team effort for the most extended
period of time. With the exception of 12 minutes, we played to our potential. We
are not happy with the result, but we're one step closer to where we want to
be."
ULM (5-6-1, 0-3-0) limited North Texas to 12
shots and just four shots on goal in the match. The Warhawks countered with
five shots, four on goal. Sophomore Taylor Epperson led ULM on offense with two
shots on goal - both in the first half.
Junior
goalkeeper Alex Holland was strong in goal with just the one goal allowed and
three saves. Holland has allowed just two goals on the season in four
appearances.
The
Warhawks return to action Sunday against defending Sun Belt champion Denver at
noon at the ULM Soccer Complex.
