SHREVEPORT, La. - The ULM soccer team built an early lead and held on
for a 3-2 victory over Centenary Wednesday evening at Mayo Field. With the
victory, the Warhawks (3-2-1) surpassed their win total from last season.
Freshman Taylor Bonetti tallied a career-high two goals in the match,
while freshman Alyssa Wooden earned her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The Warhawks came out firing with three goals in the first 20 minutes
of the opening half to build an early advantage. Bonetti got the scoring
started with a goal in the seventh minute off an assist from sophomore Taylor
Epperson.
Wooden added the second goal in the 15th minute on a penalty kick after
getting fouled in the box. Bonetti got a tap-in in the 19th minute following a
nice dish from junior Kylie McIntyre to take a 3-0 advantage.
Centenary (2-1-0) battled back with a goal in the 44th minute off the foot of
Carly Slovensky to cut the lead to 3-1 at halftime. Holden Penney struck for
Centenary's second goal of the match in the 48th minute to narrow the ULM
advantage to 3-2.
The Warhawk defense weathered the storm in the second half to secure
the victory. ULM finished with a 10-9 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in
shots on goal.
ULM hosts Southeastern Louisiana Friday at 4 p.m. at the ULM Soccer
Complex.
