Late Steal from Tugler Closes ULM Win

TROY, Ala. - A last-second steal by sophomore Elexar Tugler preserved a 49-46 ULM women's basketball Sun Belt Conference victory at Troy Saturday night inside Sartain Hall.

The Warhawks (6-15, 4-4) forced 19 Trojan turnovers, converting 21 of those miscues into points.  ULM also held the edge scoring in the paint (20-16) and fast break scoring (10-4).

Troy (1-17, 0-7) exploded out of the locker room in the second half with a 6-0 run to cut a 10-point halftime deficit to 30-26.  A putback by senior Marion Zollicoffer off a sophomore Jasmine Shaw miss extended the ULM advantage back to eight (34-26).  A jumper from senior Elizabeth Torres lengthened the cushion to 36-26.

The Trojans drew within six points on back-to-back 3-pointers from Jasmine Pitts and Sarah McAppion (46-40).  A triple from Brooke Bowie capped an 11-0 run to close the gap to 46-43.  An and-1 from Bowie made it a one-point ballgame at 47-46 with under 1:30 to play.

Senior Larrie Williams led ULM with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Shaw added 10 points and two steals.

Zollicoffer finished a nice feed from sophomore Alexar Tugler for the game's first points and a 2-0 lead.  Ieva Nagy answered with a bucket for Troy, and McAppion followed to give the Trojans a 4-2 advantage.

ULM took its first lead of the game at 9-7 on a made 3-pointer from the corner by Shaw.  A 3-pointer from Alexar Tugler pushed the Warhawk lead to 12-9.  A triple from Troy's Bowie tied the score at 12-all.

The Warhawks held the Trojans to two field goals over the final 6:30 of the opening half, closing on a 12-4 run to take a 30-20 advantage into the break.  Williams paced all scorers with eight points and added four rebounds.  Zollicoffer contributed six points, five rebounds and a blocked shot.

McAppion scored a game-high 12 points for Troy, and Bowie added nine points and five rebounds.

The Warhawks return to the court Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. against UL-Lafayette inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
