TROY, Ala. - Troy was on the mark from deep as it rolled past ULM 91-63
Saturday evening inside Sartain Hall.
The Trojans (7-11, 2-5 SBC) converted 15 of 33 shots from 3-point range
on the night, including 11 in a row at one point to put away the Warhawks. The
11 straight 3s tied an NCAA record as it was accomplished for just the third
time ever. Troy entered the night leading the Sun Belt with an average of 9.5
3-pointers per game.
Justin Wright led four Trojans in double-figure scoring with 18 points and
nine rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting. Emil Jones contributed 17 points, R.J. Scott
added 16 points and Will Weathers finished with 12 points and 12 assists.
Troy hit its first 10 3-pointers of the second half to break open the
game and extend its lead to 81-49 with 7:01 remaining in the game. The Trojans
led by as many as 35 with 5:11 to play, marking the Warhawks' largest deficit
of the season.
Sophomore center Steven McClellan was an efficient 7 of 10 from the
field and recorded a team-high 14 points for the Warhawks (2-19, 1-7 SBC).
Sophomore guard Charles Winborne chipped in 11 points for his fifth straight
game in double figures.
Sophomore guard R.J. McCray had career highs in rebounds (8) and
assists (5) to go along with a season-high eight points in 32 minutes of action
for ULM.
Troy scored 12 straight points to build an early 18-7 advantage with
13:44 remaining in the opening half. ULM answered to cut the lead to 20-15 on
eight straight points from senior guard Hugh Mingo, but that is as close as it
would get.
The Trojans used a 15-2 run to take a 35-17 lead with 6:19 remaining
before halftime. Troy capped the half with a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Jones
to take a 42-26 lead into intermission.
ULM has a week off before hosting in-state rival UL-Lafayette Saturday
(Jan. 28) at 4 p.m. inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
