Box Score MONROE, La. - The ULM tennis team swept all six singles
matches and all three doubles matches to defeat Alcorn State in dominant fashion
7-0 Sunday afternoon at Heard Stadium and close its opening weekend. The victory
pushes the Warhawks' home winning streak dating back to the 2010 season to 10
consecutive matches.
Medy Blankvoort and Monica Winkel breezed to an 8-1 win at
No. 1 doubles and Sophie Rufykiri and Silvia Tumova won the No. 2 match 8-3.
Ema Turudija and Vivian Polak sealed the doubles action with an 8-2 win on
court three, marking the 20th straight match ULM (2-0) has claimed
the doubles point dating back to a sweep against Texas-Pan American on Jan. 23,
2011.
Five Warhawks moved to 2-0 in singles play this season, led
by No. 88 ranked Polak who dispatched Arielle Buchman 6-0, 6-2 on court five.
Three ULM players finished with identical 6-2, 6-1 results including Rufykiri
on court one, Blankvoort on court two and Tumova on court four.
Winkel defeated Alcorn State's (0-1) Merilin Tripp at No. 3
singles 6-3, 6-1 for her second singles victory of the season as well. Isabelle
Rocher picked up her first singles win of the year after cruising past Daria
Rudd on court six 6-3, 6-0.
