MONROE, La. -- Troy took
control in the final 10 minutes of the second half to pull away for a 3-0
victory over ULM on Sunday at the ULM Soccer Complex. It marked the Warhawks'
final home match of the season and seniors Kylie
McIntyre, Alex Holland and Kaitlin Morin were honored prior to the
match.
The day didn't go as planned for the Warhawks as Troy broke a scoreless
tie on a penalty kick goal by Chelsey
Williams in the 49th minute which proved to be the game-winner.
Troy (8-9-2, 3-5-1 SBC) added a pair of goals in a span of a minute to
ensure its second straight conference victory. Chanel Elgin scored from the center of the box off a nice dish from
Williams in the 82nd minute to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. A minute later,
Troy was again fouled in the box, and
Louise Cheng scored on the penalty kick to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead.
The Trojans used a 16-8 shots advantage in the second half to break open
the match.
ULM (4-14-0, 1-8-0 SBC) finished with 13 shots on the day and the
Warhawks were led by freshman Karlea
Fehr's four attempts. Freshman Kelley
O'Dwyer finished with three shot attempts, while sophomore Bethany Park and
freshman Antonia Land each finished with two shots.
Holland recorded 11 saves in goal for the Warhawks in her final
appearance at the ULM Soccer Complex. A native of Las Vegas, Nev., Holland
ranks third in school history with 335 career saves.
The Warhawks close out the season on Friday at rival UL-Lafayette. The
match kicks off at 3 p.m. at the Cajun Soccer Complex.
