MONROE, La. -- Middle Tennessee scored
a pair of goals in the final 25 minutes to edge past ULM 3-1 on Friday at the
ULM Soccer Complex.
The
Warhawks limited the Sun Belt's leading offense for much of the match and used
a goal from freshman Karlea Fehr to tie the match at 1-1 in the 58th minute.
Middle
Tennessee's Paige Goeglein answered with the final two goals for her Sun
Belt-leading 10th and 11th goals of the season. Goeglein's first goal came in
the 72nd minute off a rebound and an assist from Kate Loye to give the Blue
Raiders a 2-1 advantage.
Goeglein
put the match away with her second goal in the 87th minute. The victory
improved the Blue Raiders to 10-3 overall, 5-0 in the Sun Belt.
Neither
team could get much going in the first half as the match was tied 0-0 at the
break. ULM's best scoring chance of the half came when freshman Mariah Mitchell
connected with sophomore Cerene Arsenault in the middle for an open look, but
Middle Tennessee goalkeeper Jessica Gilchrist dove to make one of her three
saves in the match.
Middle
Tennessee got on the board just after halftime in the 51st minute on a goal
from the top of the box by Amalie Anderdal.
ULM (4-9,
1-3 SBC) answered back as Mitchell sent a pass to Fehr, who dribbled past the
Middle Tennessee defense finished for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Fehr has now scored in back-to-back matches and has all three of ULM's goals in
Sun Belt play.
Fehr
led the Warhawks with two shots in the match, while Mitchell earned her third
assist of the season. Senior goalkeeper Alex Holland recorded nine saves and
pushed her save total to 34 over the last four matches.
The
Warhawks host Western Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex.
