MONROE,
La. -- Western Kentucky scored five second-half goals en route
to a 6-1 victory over ULM on Sunday on a cold and windy afternoon at the ULM
Soccer Complex.
The Lady Toppers scored five unanswered goals after the
match was tied at 1-1 at the break. Western Kentucky outshot the Warhawks 15-4
in the second half.
After falling behind 1-0 in the seventh minute, ULM answered
with a goal from freshman Mariah
Mitchell - her first of the season - at the 15:04 mark. Mitchell chipped
her shot from about 35 yards out and landed it in the left side of the net to
tie the match. Freshmen Karlea Fehr
and Antonia Land picked up assists
on the play.
Neither team found the back of the net the rest of half.
The Lady Toppers came out on fire in the second half as Sydney Sisler headed in a goal off a
cross from Amanda Buechel to give
the Lady Toppers a 2-1 advantage at the 48:14 mark.
The Lady Toppers added a goal in the 67th minute by Torrie Lange off a corner kick to take
a 3-1 lead. Late goals by Lauren Moats,
Chandler Clark and Christen Sims in the final seven
minutes of the match provided the Lady Toppers with the final margin.
Fehr led the Warhawks with four shots in the match, while
Mitchell, Land and sophomore Cerene
Arsenault each had one shot.
ULM is back on the road this upcoming weekend with a pair of
matches in the sunshine state. The Warhawks take on Florida Atlantic on Friday
at 6 p.m. CT and conclude the week at FIU on Sunday at noon CT.
