DALLAS, Texas -- SMU
(7-2, 0-0) was too much for ULM (2-8, 0-2) as the Warhawks struggled out of the
gate and could not overcome an early 20-2 deficit as SMU won the second ever
meeting, 76-56.
ULM was paced by 13 points from Elexar Tugler
while Jasmine Shaw scored 11 and freshman Alayshia Hunter chipped in 10. In her SMU debut, Keena Mays led the mustangs to the win with a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds.
The Mustangs started fast, supplemented by Warhawk turnovers
and led 9-0 at the 16:29 mark. SMU continued to control every aspect and
extended its lead 20-2 at the arrival of the second media timeout with 11:39
left before halftime.
Hunter scored six straight points to bring the score to
20-8. SMU regained momentum and led 26-8 with five minutes on the clock. At the
break SMU lead 39-14 powered by 15 from Mays. The Warhawks shot just 20% and
turned it over 17 times leading to 16 Mustang points.
The Warhawks came out of the locker room playing much better
and cut the deficit to 43-25 with 15:50 left in the game but SMU would have an
answer and extended its lead to 55-31.
The early defciti would prove to be too much for ULM and SMU would continue its four-game homestand with a 76-56 win.

its final non-conference game of the season against Central Arkansas at 7 p.m.
