UALR Runs Away From ULM in Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- UALR (6-1, 2-0) was too much for ULM (1-6, 0-2) on Saturday night as the Trojans start Sun Belt play 2-0 with the 71-54 win inside the Jack Stephens Center.

Alexar Tugler led ULM with 12 points while Alayshia Hunter finished with 10. Ashleigh Simmons pulled down 11 boards. Taylor Gault and Janette Merriex both scored 16 points.

UALR sprinted out to a 20-5 lead halfway through the first half.  Turnovers and a hot-shooting Trojan team led to the deficit and UALR led 26-7 with 8:39 left before halftime.

Jae Shin hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut UALR's lead to 30-16 with 5:43 on the clock and forced the Trojans to take a timeout. UALR answered ULM's spurt with its own and led 37-21 at the final media timeout of the first half.

A late flurry from Alexar Tugler kept ULM somewhat close but UALR had an answer each time and led 44-27. Alexar Tugler and Hunter led the way for the Warhawks with eight points each while Gault had 12 to lead UALR. The Trojans shot 61% during the first 20 minutes.

UALR continued its impressive play to open the second half and led 52-31 at the 13:30 mark. The Trojans cruised to its sixth win of the season,

The Warhawks will return to non-conference play when Southern Miss visits Monroe on Sunday (Dec. 9) for a 2 p.m. tip.
