MONROE, La. -- Ashleigh
Simmons' double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds was not enough as ULM (2-10,
0-3) fell to Florida Atlantic (7-5, 4-0), 82-72. The Owls led by as many as 15
in the first half and the Warhawks could not overcome its slow start. Florida
Atlantic takes a 4-3 lead in the all-time series.
Jasmine Shaw led ULM with 19 points while Alayshia Hunter
scored 12 and Elexar Tugler chipped in 11. Chenise Miller led all scorers with
22 points while Latavia Dempsey scored 18 points.
Elexar Tugler converted a three-point play to give ULM an
early 6-2 advantage. The Owls used an 18-2 to extend the lead to a comfortable
25-14 with 9:48 left before halftime.
The momentum stayed with the visitors as the Owls employed
its fast break game and led 36-22 with 3:45 remaining. A 12-2 run to end the
half brought ULM back within four, 38-34, at halftime.
The Owls were led by 15 points from Miller while Shaw scored
nine points to lead the Warhawks. FAU collected 23 points off 20 Warhawk
turnovers.
At the 16-minute media timeout in the second half, ULM
trailed 46-38. ULM cut the visitors' lead to 55-49 after a steal and layup from
Hunter, forcing FAU to call a timeout.
With five minutes left, FAU led 67-57. Shaw rebounded missed
free throw and collected a three-point play to bring ULM within five, 74-69,
with 2:21 left in the contest.
The Owls would regain control and cruise to its fourth Sun
Belt win in as many games.
ULM will conclude its homestand with South Alabama
on Thursday (Jan. 3) with a tipoff scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
