Tennis Drops Competitive 4-3 Decision at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The ULM tennis team earned three hard-fought singles points before ultimately dropping a 4-3 verdict at Mississippi State Thursday evening at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

The Warhawks (4-1) received a strong performance from Silvia Tumova, whose 6-1, 6-1 singles win in straight sets over Olesya Tsigvintseva gave ULM its first point of the match.  Vivian Polak moved to 5-0 in singles play this season with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Petra Ferancova. 

Medy Blankvoort swept Khrystyna Pavlyuk 6-3, 6-2 to give the Warhawks a 3-2 overall lead.  Mississippi State's (3-1) Ekaterina Iakovleva squared the match with a 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Sophie Rufyikiri.  Naomi Tran clinched the team win for the Lady Bulldogs with a come from behind 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over ULM's Isabelle Rocher.

The Warhawk duo of Polak and Ema Turudija dropped Ferancova and Pavlyuk 8-5 to even the doubles portion at one-all.  Iakovleva and Tran defeated Rufyikiri and Tumova 9-7 in a tiebreaker to claim the doubles point.  ULM held a 7-5 lead before the Mississippi State pair rallied for the win in the four-plus hour match.

ULM returns to action Sunday when Auburn travels to Heard Stadium at 12:00 p.m.
