Warhawks Come From Behind to Claim 6-2 Win Over McNeese State

HOUSTON - After trailing by two runs through the first three innings, the ULM softball team pulled out a 6-2 win over McNeese State in the first game of the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational Saturday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium. ULM moves to 4-2 overall.

Charlotte Pastor led the Warhawks with her first career multi-hit performance after going 2-for-2 with one run. Janel Salanoa, Haley McCall and Mackenzie Miller were the only other ULM players with a hit while six Warhawks comprised all six runs.

Stephanie Routzon (1-1) went the distance in the circle for her first complete game and win of the season, tossing two strikeouts while allowing seven hits and two earned runs.

Warhawks Alexis Cacioppo and Roxy Cassel led off the fourth inning with walks and Salanoa smashed a double into the center field gap to open up a four-run scoring spree. A throwing error allowed Salanoa to score and McCall to reach second base when Pastor and Miller both singled to send her home and cap the come-from-behind streak.

A fielding miscue allowed ULM to add two more runs in the sixth inning after it loaded the bases with two singles and a walk. Pastor and McCall each singled and Miller walked when a missed catch by the first baseman allowed Kayla Boening to reach and sent Pastor and McCall home.

Alanna DiVittorio got in scoring position with a two bagger in the top of the first inning and scored when Lauren Langer singled to second base. Claire Terracina followed with a triple deep into the left field corner to give the Cowgirls an early two run lead.

McNeese State's (4-4) Langner led the Cowgirls with a 2-for-3 performance which included one run and one RBI. Tiffany Denham (2-2) also threw a complete game and allowed just five hits and three earned runs.

ULM faces tournament host No. 17 Houston immediately following the McNeese State game at approximately 5:40 p.m.
