La. - ULM dropped its second straight match with a 6-1 loss to Auburn Sunday
afternoon at Heard Stadium. The match was close throughout with Auburn (4-1) pulling
out a hard-fought match in doubles play before putting ULM away in singles.
After the
two teams split the first two doubles matches, Auburn's Olivia Bennett and Jen
Pfeifler earned a 9-8 victory over ULM's Ema Turudija and Vivian Polak to earn
the doubles point and give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage.
The
Tigers quickly built a 3-0 advantage as Pfiefler defeated Monica Winkel 6-0,
6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Emily Flickinger topped Sophie Rufyikiri 6-3, 6-3 at
No. 1 singles. Auburn put the match away when Plamena Kurteva defeated Isabelle
Rocher 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at the No. 5 position.
The
Warhawks (4-2) only point came at No. 4 singles where Medy Blankvoort held on
to defeat Jackie Kasler 6-1, 0-6, 7-6. Blankvoort fell behind 3-0 in the third
set before rallying to force a tiebreaker, which she won 8-6.
ULM
continues a five-match home stand Friday (Feb. 24) against Texas-Pan American at
3 p.m.
