Box Score MONROE, La. - The ULM tennis team got back on the winning
track in dominant fashion with a 7-0 defeat of Texas-Pan American Friday
afternoon in Heard Stadium. Five of six Warhawks (5-2) won their singles matches in
straight sets and claimed all three doubles matches.
Medy Blankvoort extended her undefeated streak in singles
action to six-straight with a 6-0, 6-0 blasting of Wanda Beguelin in the No. 4
spot. Blankvoort has dropped just 11 games in the five matches she has won in
straight sets this season. The native of Huizen, The Netherlands, has won seven
singles matches in a row dating back to 2011.
On court five nationally ranked No. 108 Vivian Polak handed
a 6-0, 6-0 thrashing to Texas-Pan American's (1-3) Blanca Izaguirre, losing just two
points the entire match. After dropping the first set at No. 2, Silvia Tumova rallied
to win 5-7, 6-2, 10-4 and move her and Polak to 5-1 on the season.
Sophie Rufyikiri picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 and
Monica Winkel claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win on court three. Ema Turudija wrapped up
singles action with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Cindy Sands.
The Warhawks were flawless in doubles play, earning the
point by dropping just four games total. Blankvoort and Winkel teamed up to
take down Anderson and Suncica Strkic 8-1 on court one while Polak and Turudija
toppled Beguelin and Dana Nazarova 8-3 on court two. Rufykiri and Tumova were a
perfect 8-0 at No. 3.
ULM returns to the court next week to continue its four
match homestand, beginning with Northwestern State Wednesday at 2 p.m. The
Warhawks open Sun Belt Conference play against Arkansas State Friday at 1 p.m.
before hosting Southern Miss Sunday at 1 p.m.
