LAFAYETTE, La. -
Sophomore Charles Winborne tied a career-high with 20 points to spark ULM in a
78-60 win over rival UL-Lafayette in its season finale Saturday night inside
the Cajundome. It marked the Warhawks' first victory in Lafayette since the 1977-78 season.
ULM (3-26, 2-14) shot
a blistering 72 percent (18-of-25) from the field in the second half, including
6-for-8 from beyond the arc. The
Warhawks outscored the Ragin' Cajuns 55-32 after halftime.
Senior Fred Brown
cashed in an early second-half steal by feeding Winborne for a fast-break
dunk. Brown then drilled a huge
3-pointer to tie the game at 28-all, and followed with another jumper to give
the Warhawks their first lead since the 16:44 mark of the opening frame
(30-28).
The Ragin' Cajuns
(16-14, 10-6) retook the lead on a 10-4 surge that was punctuated by an
alley-oop dunk from Josh Brown.
Senior Hugh Mingo answered with a layup for the Warhawks to close the
gap to one (38-37) and added a deep 3-pointer to tie the game at 40-all.
Mingo buried a 3-ball
from the right wing to give ULM the lead back at 47-44. The guard followed that up with a deep
shot from the top of the key to up the lead to six (50-44). Sophomore Marcelis Hansberry pulled up
for a pretty jumper to push the Warhawk advantage to 52-44.
Mingo recorded the
first ULM double-double of the season, finishing his final collegiate game with
17 points and 11 rebounds. Brown
chipped in 19 points and added five assists in his ULM finale, while sophomore
Steven McClellan contributed 14 points and five rebounds.
Darshawn McClellan
paced the Ragin' Cajuns with 11 points and five rebounds. Josh Brown and David Perez each added
10 points in defeat.

banked home a layup inside to bring ULM within nine at 21-12 at the 9:00 mark
of the opening half. Brown knocked
home a pair of jump shots to trim the Ragin' Cajun lead to five points (22-17).
Bryant Mbamalu halted the Warhawk surge with a make of his own to vault
UL-Lafayette in front 24-17.
Brown got the roll
off the front iron at the buzzer to send ULM to the break trailing 28-23. Brown led the Warhawks with seven
points, while McClellan added six points and three rebounds. Mingo chipped in four points and a
first-half high eight rebounds.
