LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - An 11-point second half
swing led UALR over the ULM women's basketball team 52-46 Saturday night inside
the Jack Stephens Center.
ULM held the edge in points scored in the
paint (22-16), points off turnovers (14-13) and second chance points (9-6).
Senior Marion Zollicoffer got the Warhawks
(7-17, 5-6) on the board with a nifty drive to the hoop for a quick 2-0
lead. Sophomore Jasmine Shaw then banked
a layup off the glass for a 4-0 advantage.
UALR's Taylor Ford broke the ULM surge with a jumper off the glass to
make it 4-2.
The Warhawks held the Trojans scoreless for
nearly seven minutes, embarking on an 8-0 run to take a 12-4 lead. A 3-pointer from sophomore Alexar Tugler
stretched the cushion to nine (15-6).
UALR (12-11, 7-3) closed the opening frame on
an 11-2 run, but the Warhawks took a 26-21 advantage to the locker room. Senior Larrie Williams led all scorers with
nine points and added four rebounds, while Shaw chipped in seven points.
ULM scored two baskets early in the second
half to up the lead to 30-23. Taylor
Gault knocked down a jumper to bring the Trojans within five (30-25).
UALR drew within two (34-32) after a made
free throw from Marian Kursh. The
Trojans took their first lead of the game at 36-35 on a Gault layup.
Senior Elizabeth Torres paced ULM with 12
points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Williams added 11 points, moving into 16th
place on the school's all-time scoring list (996 points). She needs four points to join the 1,000-point
club as its 16th member.
Gault led all scorers with 19 points for
UALR. Kursh added nine points and 11 rebounds.
ULM returns to Fant-Ewing Coliseum to host
South Alabama Feb. 11 at a special 12 p.m. start time.
