MOBILE, Ala. - The ULM Softball team's bats fell silent in
the final game of the series against Sun Belt Conference opponent South
Alabama, securing just four hits in the 10-1 six inning loss. The Jaguars' Meghan
Collins nailed a walk-off home run to secure the run-rule victory.
Four Warhawks managed a hit each, with Charlotte Pastor
going 1-for-2 to score ULM's only run of the contest. Mackenzie Miller also
went 1-for-2 with the RBI that scored Pastor.
Stephanie Routzon (3-6) picked up her second loss of the
weekend, throwing just two outs to give up four earned runs. Samantha Hamby and
Haylie Wilson each made appearances in relief, Hamby throwing four strikeouts and
Wilson tossing one.
South Alabama (14-6, 3-0 Sun Belt) had a big four-run inning
to start the game, beginning with Alyssa Linn stealing second in the leadoff
spot and heading home off a double by Blair Johnson. Three-straight singles
followed and another double by Haley Hopkins capped the scoring spree.
Britany Campbell added another run for the Jaguars the next
inning, getting on base with a walk when Brittany Fowler nailed an RBI single
to center field.
ULM (12-10, 0-3 Sun Belt) scored its lone run of the game in
the fifth inning after Pastor led off with a single to shallow left field.
Haley McCall and Miller each followed with base hits of their own, Miller's allowing
Pastor to head home from second base.
The Jaguars answered the Warhawks' lone run in the bottom of
the fifth, using a double to the gap on two outs to score all three runners on
base. A double put Hopkins in scoring position to begin the inning and a single
and walk by Katy Neal and Linn, respectively, loaded up the bases.
The run-rule was secured in the sixth inning off a two-run
shot by Collins over the left field wall, clearing the bases to plate Fowler
who walked.
Four Jaguars had multi-hit performances, led by Fowler's
2-for-2 performance that scored two runs and one RBI. Collins went 2-for-3 with
a game-best three RBIs and hit the game's lone home run.
Hannah Campbell faced off against Routzon in the circle for
the second time during the series, throwing all 6.0 innings. She allowed four
hits, one earned run and no walks while striking out three.
ULM returns to Monroe for its first home conference series this
season when it hosts Troy this week. The series begins with a doubleheader Wednesday
at 5 p.m. and wraps up with a single game Thursday also at 5 p.m.
