NEW ORLEANS - The ULM baseball team scored
four unanswered runs, including two in the top of the sixth inning, to claim a
5-3 come from behind decision over Tulane Tuesday afternoon at Greer Field at
Turchin Stadium.
The victory completed the two-game season
sweep of the Green Wave and moved the Warhawks to 5-0 against Conference USA
opponents this season. It was the third
straight ULM win after taking the final two games of a three-game set at
Tennessee last weekend.
Tulane (11-6) reliever Alex Facundas (2-1)
hit Jeremy Sy with a pitch to open the top of the sixth inning. After Sy advanced on two Facundas wild
pitches, Brandon Alexander ripped a double over the third base bag to score Sy
and tie the ballgame at 3-all. Judd
Edwards followed with a single to the gap in left center field to plate
Alexander and give the Warhawks their first lead of the afternoon (4-3).
ULM's (12-6) Kendall Thamm retired Andrew
Garner and Garrett Cannizaro to open the bottom of the seventh inning before
walking Bowen Woodson on a 3-2 offering.
Thamm bounced back by forcing Brandon Boudreaux to fly out to Alexander
in center to end the frame.
Nick Schneeberger reached on an infield
single to third base with one out in the bottom of the Green Wave eighth
inning. Wil Browning threw a wild pitch,
and then Logan Fiasco allowed a passed ball by to move Schneeberger to third
base. Browning struck out Sean Potkay
swinging for the inning's second out before forcing Jeremy Schaffer to ground
out to strand the tying run at third base.
Browning sat down all three Green Wave
batters he faced in the ninth inning to earn his third save of the season.
Tulane opened the bottom of the first inning
with three base hits off ULM starter Andrew Richardson, capped by a two-run
double off the bat of Schneeberger to claim the early 2-0 lead. Richardson forced three straight ground ball
outs to escape the inning without any further damage.
Joey Rapp crushed a leadoff double down the
left field line off Green Wave pitcher Alex Byo to open the second inning. Taylor Abdalla drove a double of his own to
the gap in right center field to score Rapp and draw the Warhawks within one
run (2-1).
Shelby Aulds (2-0) entered in relief of
Richardson in the bottom of third inning and retired the side in order. Brennan Middleton grounded out to Edwards at
third base, Schneeberger grounded out Rapp to Aulds at first and Potkay popped
out to Caleb Clowers at second base.
Aulds threw four shutout innings of relief,
allowing two base hits. He walked one
and struck out one during the 48-pitch effort.
Abdalla roped a sharp single to left field to
open the top of the fifth inning. Two
batters later, Les Aulds singled down the right field line to score the run and
make the score 3-2. Clowers lined out to
the shortstop Middleton to get Byo out of the frame.
Rapp, Abdalla and Fiasco each belted two hits
apiece to lead the Warhawk offense. All
three players, along with Alexander, finished with one double.
Schneeberger paced Tulane with three hits and
two RBIs. Boudreaux added a pair of hits
and a run scored. Facundas allowed one
earned run in his 1.2 innings of work to take the loss.
ULM hosts rival UL-Lafayette in a three-game
set at Warhawk Field this weekend to open Sun Belt Conference play. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m.
