MEMPHIS - The ULM softball team threw a hitless four innings
before Memphis charged back to claim a 6-1 victory Thursday evening at the
Memphis Softball Complex.
Miyuki Navarrete led all batters for the night and had a
season-best 3-for-3 performance with one run. Kayla Boening was the only other
Warhawk with multiple hits in a 2-for-3 performance while Mackenzie Miller
contributed one hit.
Samantha Hamby (4-4) threw 4.2 innings and fanned two
batters while she allowed five earned runs on six hits to earn the loss.
Stephanie Routzon threw the final 1.1 innings with one strikeout.
After it knotted the score in the fourth inning, Memphis (15-29)
broke out with a five run fifth inning to take its first lead of the game. The
Tigers strung together three straight hits sparked by a Morgan Mosby triple,
and added two more singles and a double after a throwing error to run up the
scoreboard 6-1.
Navarrete led off the contest with a run after she reached
base with a single. Haley McCall laid down a sacrifice bunt and Memphis muffed
the throw to first which rolled far into the outfield and allowed Navarrete to
score for the Warhawks (16-18) from first.
The Tigers scored in almost identical fashion three innings
later, with Ijiah Hargrove stealing second before a throwing error to first
base permitted her to head home and even the score.
Ellen Roberts and Jessica Phillips each had two hits for the
contest, as Roberts provided a RBI and Phillips scored a run. Roberts (8-14)
was also credited the win in the circle after she allowed one unearned run on
six hits with six strikeouts in all seven innings.
