MONROE, La. - The ULM softball team fell victim to a
one-hitter to drop the series finale against North Texas 4-1 Sunday afternoon
at the ULM Softball Complex. Despite the loss, the Warhawks took their second
Sun Belt Conference series of the year after winning the doubleheader
yesterday.
Mackenzie Miller had ULM's only hit of the contest which was
for an extra base, a double in a 1-for-2 outing with one RBI and one walk. Alexis
Cacioppo scored the solitary run.
Samantha Hamby (5-4) was credited the loss in the circle
after she allowed four earned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings. Haylie Wilson
pitched 5.2 innings in relief and gave up four hits with one strikeout.
All four of North Texas' runs came in the second inning
after it loaded the bases on one out. Two runners walked in, and Megan Rupp
nailed a hard hit RBI single that ricocheted off Cacioppo's glove. A fielder's
choice plated the final run before the Warhawks escaped the inning.
ULM (18-19, 5-10 Sun Belt) scored its lone run of the game
with the only hit it managed, a double by Miller to plate Cacioppo on two outs
in the seventh inning to rob Ashley Kirk of her first no-hitter this season.
Maddelyn Farley had a big 3-for-4 performance with one run for
the Mean Green (19-21-1, 9-8-1 Sun Belt) while Caitlin Grimes also had multiple
hits going 2-for-3 with a run. Kirk collected eight strikeouts during her one
hit, one run effort.
