Girardi's Three-Run Bomb Leads ULM to 5-2 Defeat of Jackson State

Softball

MONROE, La. - A huge three run home run by Katie Girardi lifted the ULM softball team to a 5-2 victory over Jackson State Wednesday evening at the ULM Softball Complex. The Warhawks rallied twice during the contest for its third straight win in a row in come-from-behind fashion.

Katie Girardi has become hot at the plate since her return to the lineup with a big 3-for-3 performance that scored two runs and three RBIs. Haley McCall also went 3-for-3 with one RBI while Charlotte Pastor used a 2-for-3 effort to score a run.

Stephanie Routzon (4-9) ended her slump with a career-high tying seven strikeouts in the complete game performance, which also equaled ULM's season-best in strikeouts. She allowed just two earned runs on seven hits to pick up the win.

With the Warhawks (19-19) trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, Charlotte Pastor led off with a single to right field and took advantage of an error and a late fielder's choice play to load the bases with two outs. A passed ball allowed Pastor to score when Girardi stepped up with her second bomb of the year to seize a 5-2 advantage.

ULM fell behind twice during the game and scored the first equalizer in the bottom of the second off a Haley McCall double, which plated Girardi from second base after she singled and a wild pitch put her in scoring position.

After a scoreless first frame, Jackson State (24-23) put the first run of the contest on the scoreboard with a leadoff home run by Amanda Vasquez in the second inning.

The Lady Tigers took a one run advantage again in the fourth inning, this time with a leadoff walk by Arial Siegel who scored when Sabeana Romero roped a single through the left side.

Only three Jackson State batters managed hits, all of them multi-hit efforts led by Romero's 2-for-3 outing with one run and two RBIs. Breea Jamerson (13-8) was credited the loss after throwing all six innings with just one earned run on nine hits while fanning six.

The Warhawks hit the road tomorrow for a make-up date against Stephen F. Austin at 4:30 p.m. before returning home for a three game series against Western Kentucky this Saturday and Sunday.
