MONROE, La. - The Muscular Dystrophy Association is gearing up for the
2nd annual Muscle Team® Madness event Thursday, November 1st at the ULM Student
Union Building where University of Louisiana at Monroe Head Baseball Coach Jeff
Schexnaider will serve as "Head Coach" of the MDA Muscle Team® consisting of
athletes who are paired with an MDA buddy.
Schexnaider will also receive the 2012 MDA Champion of
Spirit Award. The Champion of Spirit
award is an annual honor given to high-achieving individuals who help further
MDA's mission to find a cure. Last
year's head coach and award recipient was Louisiana Tech Women's basketball
coach and WNBA Hall of Famer Teresa Weatherspoon. This year, Jeff Schexnaider will be
recognized not only for his stellar performance on the field, with his Warhawk
Baseball team taking the Sunbelt Conference Championship this year, but also
for his continued history of support of MDA's fundraising and awareness
efforts.
The 2012 Muscle Team® Madness, hosted by Evans Oil
Company, Benchmark Construction Group, and Volvo Rents will pair Louisiana's
top athletes with an MDA Buddy (a local child living with a neuromuscular
disease). Last year's Muscle Team®
included LaTech's Men's Basketball Head Coach, Mike White; Two time Super Bowl
Champion with the San Francisco 49ers, Lawrence Pillars; Detroit Pistons
Forward, Greg Monroe; and retired Major League Baseball locals Brian West and
Mike DeJean among others.
Guests can enjoy interactive entertainment, live and
silent auctions and a variety of food and beverages at this action-packed
event. Additionally, participants can meet and greet the athletes, coaches, MDA
Buddies, celebrities and business executives.

The Muscle Team® Madness event will raise money for
families affected by a muscle-wasting disease in Northeast Louisiana. These
services include a nationwide network of clinics, summer camp for children ages
6-17 and more. Proceeds also fund research to find treatments and cures for
neuromuscular diseases.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing
muscular dystrophy, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and related diseases by funding
worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health
care and support services, advocacy and education.
