MONROE, La. - ULM opened its
season with a 2-1 loss to Central Arkansas Sunday afternoon at the ULM Soccer
Complex. On a wet afternoon, the Warhawks (0-1) struggled to muster much
offense after connecting for four goals in an exhibition victory over Northwestern
State on Wednesday.
Freshman Karlea Fehr scored
the Warhawks' only goal of the match in the 79th minute to cut UCA's lead to
2-1. Fehr chipped in her shot from about 10 yards out off a rebound for her first
collegiate goal. Despite the momentum, ULM was unable to find the back of the
net again over the final 10 minutes of play.
Freshman Kelley O'Dwyer just
missed tying the match in the 89th minute when her shot from just in front of
the goal sailed high.
Central Arkansas (2-0) scored a pair of goals in a five-minute span
midway through the second half to take control of the match. Kristin Pollard broke a scoreless tie with
a score in the 74th minute, and Brooke
Ballard added a goal at the 78:43 mark to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage.
UCA finished with a 13-12 advantage in overall shots, but ULM managed a
7-6 lead in shots on goal. Fehr led the way for the Warhawks with six shots and
the lone goal.
The Warhawks begin an eight-match road trip Friday at McNeese State.
The match is slated to kick off at 7 p.m. at Cowgirl Field.
