UL-Lafayette Spoils ULM Home Opener in 3-0 Sweep

MONROE, La. – The ULM Warhawks were swept 3-0 by the UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in the Sun Belt Conference opener Thursday night in front of a capacity crowd at the ULM Activity Center.

ULM (4-6, 0-1 Sun Belt) was led by a solid effort from senior outside hitter Samantha Morse, whose eight kills led the team. Morse also added a solo block and two block assists. Sophomore libero Marcela Araya contributed 15 digs defensively.

UL-Lafayette (9-7, 1-0 Sun Belt) set the tone early, leading the entire way in the first set, leading by as much as nine points (21-12) before taking the opener 25-15.

The Warhawks and Ragin' Cajuns played a competitive second set. ULM had a 10-9 advantage before things were tied up at 14. UL-Lafayette would use a series of ULM errors as well as some solid attacks from Lavinia Tataran and Andrea Hole to win the set 25-20 and head into the break with a 2-0 advantage.

In the third set, the Warhawks had a 13-12 advantage before a 5-0 Ragin' Cajun rally. UL-Lafayette carried the momentum to take the third set 25-19.

UL-Lafayette had a total of 10 service aces, including three from both Caitlyn Auxilien and Andrea Hole. Mandi Gavin finished the match with 25 assists. Kelly Wiesmann and Hole each contributed eight kills.

The Warhawks return to the road on Sunday when they visit North Texas for a 1 PM match.
