MONROE, La. -- North Texas scored
a pair of goals in a two-minute span in the first half and held on for a 2-1
victory over ULM Sunday afternoon at the ULM Soccer Complex.
The Warhawks didn't make it easy for the Mean Green however, as they
scored in the 26th minute and had numerous opportunities to tie the match in
the second half. The ULM defense settled in and had a strong showing as they
held North Texas scoreless for the final 68 minutes of the match.
North Texas (7-3-1, 2-0-0 SBC) struck for a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute
when Kelsey Hodges scored her
conference-leading seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick. The Mean Green
scored again in the 22nd minute on a header by Michelle Young off a cross from the corner by Karla Pineda.
It didn't take long for ULM (3-7-0, 0-1-0 SBC) to answer though as
freshman Karlea Fehr took a pass
from Mariah Mitchell and outran the
North Texas defense for her team-leading third goal of the season. It marked
the first time ULM has scored a goal against North Texas since 2008, when the
Warhawks defeated the Mean Green 3-2 in Monroe.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half as
North Texas won for the fourth straight time in the series.
Fehr led the Warhawks with four shots, including three on goal. Senior
goalkeeper Alex Holland paced the
Warhawk defense with a season-high nine saves.
ULM travels to Jonesboro, Ark. on Friday to take on Arkansas State at 2
p.m. at the ASU Soccer Park.
