JACKSON, Miss. - The ULM Warhawks volleyball team (3-2) earned its third straight victory Tuesday night in a 3-1 decision at Jackson State (0-4).
Freshman Katie Harrington performed well in her first start of her ULM career, recording a couple of key kills and contributing on a number of blocks. Seniors Samantha Morse and Zuzana Markova combined for 11 kills to lead the ULM attack.
"Getting my first start of the year was unbelievable. Playing in this program and with this team was a dream of mine from so long ago. I was so excited to be out there with them and being a part of the team," Harrington said. "Honestly, I couldn't have had the match I did without the other girls. They are my support system. I was out there, pumped up, and they held me down to earth. It was all a collaborative effort. As for my play, I just try to do my job."
Despite some drama in the first set, the Warhawks took the opener 25-23. ULM took a 2-0 lead after taking the second set 25-22. The third set went to Jackson state by a 25-20 tally to prevent the Warhawk sweep.
The Warhawks started the fourth set with all of the momentum, despite dropping the previous set. Markova had two huge kills to help push ULM into the lead. A Jackson State attack error sealed the set for ULM, 25-23, and the match.
The Warhawks remain on the road head to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Razorback Invitational this weekend. ULM opens the tournament against UTEP on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
