TROY, Ala. -- ULM pushed out
to an early advantage, but Troy took control in the second half for a 64-55
victory on Thursday inside Trojan Arena.
The Trojans used an 11-0 run early in the second half to take the lead
for good and extended their lead to as many as 12 in the final minutes. Troy
shot 40.6 percent in the second half and limited ULM to just 34.8 percent
(8-of-23) shooting after halftime.
Junior guard Amos Olatayo
led the Warhawks with 17 points and eight rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting. It
marked the third straight game that Olatayo has scored at least 17 points. Junior
guard Marcelis Hansberry was the
only other ULM player to score in double figures with 11 points on 4-of-7
shooting.
The Trojans took control by scoring 11 straight points early in the
second half to build a 41-34 advantage. The Warhawks cut the lead to 45-43 with
12:53 remaining, but seven straight points by the Trojans put the game away.
Emil Jones paced three
Trojans in double-figure scoring with 17 points, while Ray Chambers added 11 points and Hunter Williams chipped in 10 points and five assists.
The Warhawks shot 56 percent in the first half and pushed out to a
21-10 lead. Troy responded with six straight points and the Trojans scored the
first three points of the half to cut the ULM lead to 31-28 at the break.
ULM returns home to face Middle Tennessee on Saturday at 4 p.m. inside
Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
