South Alabama Completes Comeback, Beat ULM 61-51

MOBILE, Ala. -- ULM (3-14, 1-7) led by as many as 13 at South Alabama (11-7, 4-5) but a 31-4 run would doom the Warhawks on Wednesday night inside the Mitchell Center.

South Alabama has taken five of the last six meetings from ULM and have allowed the Warhawks to score just 45 and 51 points in the two matchups this season.

Ashleigh Simmons collected her fourth double-double of the season and second consecutive such performance with 14 points and 13 rebounds, a career-high mark for rebounds for the junior forward. Jasmine Shaw finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Warhawks led 10-2 at the arrival of the first media timeout, using four Lady Jag turnovers to supplement its offense. ULM's offense continued to click and a jumper from Shaw stretched the lead to 16-6 with 12:29 to play.

Shaw gave ULM a 24-11 lead, its largest of the night, with an offensive rebounds and put back at the seven-minute mark.

South Alabama cut ULM's lead to 24-19 on a triple from Veronica Cherizol with 4:41 on the clock. A 16-2 run to end the half gave South Alabama a 27-26 advantage at halftime. Simmons led ULM with eight points while Mary Nixon led South Alabama with eight points.

The run reached 20-2 before ULM scored to make it 31-28, Jaguars, with 16:21 left in the contest. All of the momentum stayed with the home team as South Alabama led 38-28 with 12:26 to play.

The Lady Jags slowed a Warhawk comeback attempt and led 46-36 with just over eight minutes to play. South Alabama controlled the remaining minutes to collect its fourth Sun Belt victory, 61-51.

ULM will stay on the road at play at Arkansas State on Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
