MONROE, La. -- South
Alabama (9-5, 2-3) erased a four-point halftime deficit to win 55-45 over ULM (2-11, 0-4) on Thursday night. The
Warhawks missed all five three point attempts in the second half after hitting
three in the first half.
Ashleigh Simmons led ULM 12 points and eight rebounds.
Alexar Tugler chipped in 10 points. Mansa El led South Alabama with 12 points while
Brianna Wright scored 11.
ULM jumped out to a 9-2 lead after the first four minutes of
action. Shaw hit a fast break three-pointer with 14:26 left to extend lead to
12-4.
South Alabama trailed ULM 17-12 with 7:40 remaining in the
half. The Lady Jags got as close as two points but the Warhawks would lead
27-23 at halftime.
Alexar Tugler and Simmons both had six points at the break
while El led South Alabama with five points. ULM shot 47% and made three of six
three-point attempts.
At the first media timeout in the second half, ULM led
34-28. South Alabama tied the game at 37-37 after two free throws from Wright
at the 12:15 mark. Sharnice Brooks hit two free throws to break the tie at the
9:26 mark.
South Alabama went on a six-minute scoring drought but ULM
could not capitalize and the Lady Jags took a 42-41 lead at the 7:19 mark, its
first lead of the night.
The visitors stretched its lead to 47-43 with 4:26 left in
the game. Turnovers were a problem and led to an 8-0 run for the Lady Jags,
which secured the win for South Alabama.
Mona Martin's squad will travel to North Texas for a Jan. 5
game at 5 p.m. with the Mean Green.
