MONROE, La. -- From the season opening win
against No. 8 Arkansas to making the program's first bowl appearance of the FBS
era, the 2012 Warhawk football season featured numerous highlights.
By the
numbers...
1 • ULM made
its first bowl appearance since moving up to the FBS ranks beginning with the
1994 campaign when it battled Ohio in the 2012 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl.
2 • The
attacking Warhawk defense scored a pair of defensive touchdowns in the 63-10
win at Tulane... It was the first time since the 1999 season that ULM scored
multiple defensive TDs in one game... ULM recorded returned three interceptions
for scores against Northwestern State on Sept. 25, 1999.
4 • Isaiah
Newsome led the Warhawks with four interceptions in 2012... Meanwhile, DaCorris
Ford finished second on the team with three.
5 • ULM posted
a five-game win streak from Sept. 29 - Oct. 27... It was the program's longest
win streak since a five-game win streak during the 1993 season (Oct. 16 - Nov.
13)
8 • ULM's
eight wins are an FBS-era (1994-pres.) high and the most since the Warhawks
posted nine wins in the final season at the FCS (1-AA) level (9-3; 1993).
10 • ULM
earned a total of 10 postseason honors from the Sun Belt Conference following a
strong 2012 campaign... Head coach Todd Berry was named the league's coach of
the year, while Kolton Browning was tabbed the conference's offensive player of
the year... In all, the squad had eight all-conference selections (1 first team
selection, 5 second team picks and two honorable mention team members).
45 • There
were 45 overtime games this season, an all-time high... ULM played in a
season-high four overtime games and posted a 3-1 record in those games.
61 • The
Warhawks set a new school record with 61 touchdowns this season... Of ULM's 61
TDs -- 33 passing TDs, 24 rushing TDs and four defensive scores (1 INT Return;
3 Fumble Returns)... The previous school record for TDs was 56 during the 1993
campaign.
94 • R.J.
Young led the Warhawk defense with 94 tackles in 2012... He has also recorded
11 tackles for loss.
98.3 • Justin
Manton connected on 57 of his 58 PATs this season for a success rate of 98.3
percent... His 57 makes and 58 attempts are both league highs.
209 • Brent
Leonard finished his career with 209 career receptions... His seven grabs in
the Independence Bowl pushed him past Mack Vincent's mark of 203 receptions
from 2000 to 2003.
41,853 • The
total attendance for the 2012 Independence Bowl was 41,853... It was the
highest total since the 2009 game when 49,653 fans watched Georgia defeat Texas
A&M... It also marked the 16th time in the last 18 Independence Bowls that
the attendance surpassed the 40,000 fan mark.
380,762 • A
total of 380,762 people passed through the gates and watched ULM play this
season... For the Warhawks' 13 games, the squad played in front of an average
crowd size of 29,289.
The Warhawk
Eight
For the first time since joining the FBS ranks in 1994,
ULM posted eight wins in a season. After
starting the season 1-2, ULM won five straight contests to reach bowl
eligibility with a 6-2 mark at the end of October. Following two losses in early November, the
Warhawks won their final two games to secure its first winning season with an
8-4 regular season record. It is ULM's
first winning season since a 9-3 mark in 1993 (the final season of FCS [1-AA]
play).
Independence
Day
ULM made its first bowl appearance since moving up to the
FBS level when it battled Ohio in the 2012 AdvoCare V100 Independence
Bowl. The Bobcats claimed victory in the
first ever meeting between the two schools on Friday, Dec. 28 at Independence
Stadium in Shreveport, La.
