Warhawks Slip to UALR, 1-0

MONROE, La. – Despite holding a 19-14 advantage in shots, the ULM soccer program fell 1-0 to UALR on Sunday at the ULM Soccer Complex.

Sophomore Karlea Fehr led ULM (5-10-1, 0-5 SBC) with five shots, including four on goal. Sophomore Mariah Mitchell also took five shots, while freshman Jenna Pillon fired four.

UALR (4-10-0, 1-4 SBC) scored in the 73rd minute on a broken play in front of the net. After Paige Mason drove down the middle, the ball rolled loosely in the penalty box and Dakotah Sparrman was able to get just enough on it to roll it past freshman goalkeeper Holly Mallinson.

The Warhawks controlled the entire first half and had several good opportunities, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch after a pair of shots off the crossbar and one-on-one looks against the visiting goalkeeper.

“We absolutely dominated the first 15 minutes of the game. We really could have put them away early with the amount of chances we had, but we let UALR hang around,” said ULM head coach Roberto Mazza. “It's a tough loss but we will battle back and come out strong next weekend.”

ULM started eight freshmen in the contest and has started at least that many in every game this season.13 newcomers player in the game.

The Warhawks will play their final home game of the 2013 season on Sunday, Oct. 20 against Texas State at the ULM Soccer Complex. Senior goalkeeper Karlin Aloisio will be honored before the game.
