ULM Swept at South Alabama

Volleyball

MOBILE, Ala. -- ULM dropped a 3-0 tilt Sunday afternoon at South Alabama in what was the Warhawks' final road contest of 2013.

The Lady Jags (13-13, 8-8 Sun Belt) used several big runs to put away ULM (6-26, 2-14 Sun Belt) in all three sets.

Marcela Araya tallied a match-high 16 digs and became the second ULM player to ever record 500-plus digs in a single season, but it wasn't enough to stop reigning Sun Belt Freshman of the Week Mechell Daniel and the high-powered South Alabama offense.

After a 7-7 tie in the first set, the Lady Jags opened up an 18-7 run to take the frame, 25-14  The momentum continued into the second stanza as South Alabama controlled the entire set and won 25-14.

In the third set, ULM senior Iren Marinova saw her first action since Oct. 6.  However, a 10-1 South Alabama spurt all but put the match away.  With Hadley Swartz at the serving line, the Warhawks staged a 7-1 rally of their own but it was not enough as the Lady Jags would close out the sweep with a 25-16 victory in the final set.

ULM returns home Nov. 15 and hosts Arkansas State. First serve is at 7 p.m. in the Activity Center.
