MONROE, La. -- ULM dropped a 3-0 decision Wednesday night to in-state rival UL-Lafayette in front of a season-high 277 fans Wednesday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Hope Pawlik and Hadley Swartz each recorded a Warhawk-best eight kills while Maria Garcia had a great outing, tallying six kills and six total blocks (one solo, five assist). Marcela Araya notched a match-high 14 digs.
ULM (6-24, 2-12 Sun Belt) battled ULL (18-10, 8-6 Sun Belt) throughout the match, but things were especially tight in the first and third sets.
In the opener, the Warhawks fell had an early 4-2 lead but then the Ragin' Cajuns staged a rally and got in the driver's seat. ULM would fell back by as much as six points at 20-14 but drew within three points at 21-18 after a 4-1 spurt. However, ULL went on to take the frame 25-20.
The Warhawks took an early 5-1 lead in the second set thanks to back-to-back service aces by Alannah Cullum. However, the advantage wouldn't last long as the Ragin' Cajuns went on a 12-8 tear to take a 13-10 lead. ULL never looked back and won the set 25-17.
ULM had a short-lived lead in the third set at 6-4, recovering from an early ULL run. However, the Ragin' Cajuns regained the advantage and held on to take the final set, 25-21.
The Ragin' Cajuns' Tonice White tallied a match-high 14 kills.
The Warhawks return to action Friday night against Texas State. First serve is at 7 p.m. inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
